Six BCL leaders suspended

The authorities of Noakhali Science and Technology Univerity (NSTU) has suspended for an interim period six students in connection
with a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the university campus. The decision was taken at a meeting on Saturday night, said the university’s vice-chancellor Dr Ohiduzzaman. The suspended students are: Abdul Hamid Bappi of Pharmacy, Nasir Ahmed Rana of English, Saiful Haque of Food Technology and Nutrition Science, Nayeem Rahman of Information
and Communication Engineering, Sajjadul Islam of English and Nasir Ahmed of Economics Department. Ten people were injured in a clash between two factions of BCL at the university on Saturday following a brawl over the distribution of special feast on the Victory Day on Friday night. Campus sources said a chase and counter-chase took place between Sajjad-Badrul group and Bappi group on the campus on Saturday morning. At one stage, the groups locked in a clash that left 10 students injured. Of the injured, two were admitted to Noakhali General Hospital.
Man found dead in C’nawabganj
Chapainawabganj: Police recovered the body of a man from Telipara on the bank of the Padma
river in Shibganj upazila on Saturday afternoon,
reports UNB.
The identity of the deceased could not be known.
Sub-inspector Kamruzzaman of Shibganj Police Station said on information, police recovered the body of the man with his hand and leg tied with rope from the area around 2pm.
The body was sent to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Sewing machines distributed
JOYPURHAT: Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) distributed blankets, sewing machines and rickshaw-vans among cold-hit, distress and physically challenged people in front of World Vision ADP office at Hatil-Bulupara area in the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
President of Zila Awami League Advocate Shamsul Alam Dudu MP distributed the blankets, sewing machines and rickshaw-vans at a simple function as the chief guest.
ADB manager of World Vision Gregory Shital Peraira presided over the distribution function.
It was addressed, among others, by general secretary of Zila Awami League SM Solaiman Ali and team leader of KOICA project Mohsinul Haque.
A total of 1,100 blankets, 4,000 buckets, 48 sewing machines, 25 vans and 3 rickshaws were distributed among the people.
Besides, KOICA distributed 195 chairs and 114 benches among 19 community clinics.
