18th council meeting of MIST held
The 18th council meeting of MIST was held yesterday at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Mirpur Cantonment, says a press release.
 Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, presided over the meeting. Commandant of MIST, Major General Md Abul Khair, ndc welcomed the minister.
In the meeting, approval of corrected post graduate ordinance of MIST, conduct of level-1 programme of MIST from 2016-‘17 at BNA, arrival of BAF cadets at the 3rd year of training and studying 2nd year of engineering programme at MIST, undergraduate admission test and important discussion and decision was taken regarding selection of number of seats for admission in the academic session 2016-‘17.
Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, Principal Staff officer Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General Md Mahfuzur Rahman, VC BUP, Engineer-in-Chief, high ranking representatives of Dhaka University, BUET, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology were present in the meeting.

Poetry recitation festival begins at JU
With the slogan ‘Mounota Venge Hou Shamil Aj Muktir Michile’, a five-day- long Poetry recitation festival began on the university campus yesterday.
 ‘Dhoni’ a renowned cultural organisation of JU, organised this festival which will continue December 22. The event was inaugurated about 10.30 pm by a colorful procession which was brought out from the foot of ‘Amar Ekushey’ sculpture. Prominent writers, poets and cultural activists took part the procession.

MCJ dept offers Evening Masters at RU
The seventh batch admission process is going on for the two-year durable evening Masters course at the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism (MCJ) department under Rajshahi University (RU).
Admission forms will be available til December 31 this year on the dept office premises from 8am to 2pm every working day. The admission tests against 50 seats will be of MCQ style. The admission seekers must have the graduation or post graduation degree in any discipline from any university and have at least six points. 
The total fee of the programme is Tk. one lakh which will cover the entire academic and administrative expenses in four phases. The duration of the programme is two academic years divided into four semesters. To get the details information about the admission official website www.ru.ac.bd/ mcj.

Bangladesh Ikebana Assoc starts Mirpur School
Under the initiatives of Bangladesh Ikebana Association (BIA), a school of Mirpur School was started yesterday at a community centre at Mirpur, says a press release. 
Main purpose of new school is how to introduce more widely Japanese Method of Flower Arrangement in Bangladesh. Women‘s Voluntary Association (WVA) president Mustari Kashem was present as chief guest. Razia Zaher, president of BIA has delivered her speech. First Secretary & Second Secretary (Cultural & Public Affairs Section) of Embassy of Japan to Bangladesh Otsuka  & Machiko Yamamura were present as guest.  

Int’l conference on medical engineering held at UIU
The first International Conference on Medical Engineering, Health Informatics and Technology (MediTec 2016) themed “Smart Systems for Healthcare” was held at the auspicious of the School of Science and Engineering of United International University on Saturday, says a press release.  
Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad, director general, Directorate General of Health Services was the chief guest and Prof Dr M Rezwan Khan, Vice-chancellor of United International University was the chairperson of the opening ceremony. Dr. M. Anwarullah, Director and Joint Secretary, National Disabled Development Foundation under the Ministry of Social Welfare and Dr. Mohiuuddin Osmani, Joint Chief, Health and Family Welfare Ministry were the special guests.   

7th Physics Olympiad-Dhaka Event  held at IUB
In collaboration with Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), Bangladesh Physics Olympiad organised the “7th Physics Olympiad-Dhaka Event 2016” on Saturday held at the permanent campus of IUB at Bashundhara in the capital, says a press release. 
Students from various schools and colleges across Bangladesh took part in this national competition. Best eight winners of the competition will participate in 18th Asian Physics Olympiad to be held in Russia while the best five winners will take part in 48th International Physics Olympiad in Indonesia. The daylong programme started in the morning. Prof M Omar Rahman, Vice-chancellor of IUB distributed crests and certificates among the winners of Physics Olympiad. Officials of Bangladesh Physics Olympiad and the Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Sciences, IUB also spoke on this occasion.
