Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossen yesterday said a 71-storey twin tower will be constructed at Purbachal as a symbol of independence, reports BSS.
"As the symbol of independence, a 71-storey iconic twin-tower will be constructed at Purbachal and the tender relating to this will be floated soon," said the minister as the chief guest while addressing a seminar organised by Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IE,B) in the capital.
In addition to this, a 142-storey building also will be built in the same area if the soil tests are found feasible, he said.
The government will also build nearly 70,000 flats at Purbachal and each will be at least 30-storey apartment building, said the minister, adding that the National Board of Revenue (NBR) is building a 40-storey building at Chittagong.
As the country will be a middle income one by 2021, so the use of modern technology would be applied in every sphere, including in the case of urbanisation.
At the same time, RAJUK has been instructed to make it a mandatory for installation of own sewerage treatment plant in all the high-rise buildings in the capital, the minister added.
Chaired by IEB, Dhaka centre Chairman Mesbahur Rahman Tutul, the seminar also was addressed, among others, by IEB Dhaka's Vice-Chairman Quazi Khairul Bashar, Steel Structure Manufacturing Association Chairman Zakir Hossen and General Secretary Jahidul Islam.
Three experts from the United Kingdom, Norway and India participated in the day-long seminar and presented papers at the seminar.
