A college student was found dead at Mohadebnagar village of Sadar upazila yeterday morning, five days after his alleged abduction.
The deceased was identified as Gautam Sarker, 19, a student of Simanta Adorsho College in the upazila and son of a Ghona union parishad member Ganesh Sarker, a resident of Mohadebnagar village.
Quoting locals, police said Gautam went missing on Tuesday last.
Fazlur Rahmad Mosha, chairman of Ghona union parishad, said Gautam along with his friends were watching a football match on TV at a local shop of Mohadebnagar village in the evening of December 13.
He went out of the shop following a phone call and went missing.
Later, abductors called the boy’s father over phone and demanded TK 10 lakh as ransom.
Being informed, police launched a drive and arrested three young men Shahadat Morol, son of Karim Morol, a resident of Bharukhali village, Shaon, son of Abdul Alim, and Monirul Islam Sunny, residents of Bahera village in Debhata upazila - in this connection.
Following the statement of the arrestees, police recovered the body of Gautam from a pond of Mohadebnagar village. Police also arrested two others from the village—Nur Islam and Rezaul Sheikh—in this connection.
Later, the agitated villagers also torched the houses of Nur Islam and Rezaul Sheikh.
