Both the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) have announced a plan to relieve freedom fighters living in Dhaka city of holding tax is under consideration, reports UNB. DSCC mayor Sayeed Khokon, on behalf of the two city corporations, made the announcement at a reception and reunion programme for the freedom fighters held at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital yesterday. The DNCC and DSCC arranged the function marking the Victory Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Khokon said the city corporations will also form a welfare fund for the distressed and helpless freedom fighters. “The freedom fighters made the country independent sacrificing their blood during the Liberation War but we can’t meet their demands. We should have relieved them of holding tax earlier. It is a npity for us,” he said.
