Muggers snatch Tk 1 lakh from businessman 
Muggers took away Tk one lakh from a businessman after stabbing him in the capital’s Fakirapool area early yesterday.
The victim was identified as Anar Miah, 45. Sub-inspector Bachchu Miah, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp, said a gang of muggers intercepted Anar and snatched a bag containing Tk one lakh from him while he was crossing the road around 5.00am.
When Anar tried to resist the muggers, they stabbed him, leaving him critically injured.

SC goes into vacation today
Supreme Court (SC) is scheduled to go into 15-day recess today, leaving the vacation benches and court of Chamber Judge to deal with the urgent matters at the High Court and Appellate Division.
Chief Justice has already constituted 20 vacation benches at the High Court to dispose the urgent matters till January 1, 2017. A notice was issued on December 14, signed by High Court Division deputy registrar (administration and judicial) Md Azizul Haque in this regard.
Meanwhile, Appellate Division has issued another notice signed by its additional registrar Arunava Chakraborty on December 11, stating Justice Md Nizamul Huq has been nominated as the vacation judge to dispose of the urgent matters at the Appellate Division during the vacation.
“Justice Md Nizamul Huq will hold hearing at the Chamber Court on December 20 and 27,” said the notice.
The apex court will resume its regular operation on January 2, 2017.

21 arrested in capital 
Different units of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested 21 people yesterday during anti-drug special raids throughout the capital.
“All the arrestees were involved with either drug trading or taking the illegal substances,” said a DMP release.
Police at that time also recovered 636 pieces of yaba tablets, 665 small packets of heroin, 15 bottles of local liquor, 10 bottles of phensidyl and 20 injections.

Bangabandhu’s portrait at Gulshan Club
A portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was unveiled at Gulshan Club in the capital Friday night.
Prime Minister’s adviser H T Imam opened the portrait on the ground floor of the club, marking the 46th Victory Day. Central Awami League leader Alauddin Nasim, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rab and Club President Sakhawat Abu Khair Mohammad were present on the occasion.
Workshop on role of journalists in rebuilding tourism image. The Aviation and Tourism Journalists’ Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB) is going to organise a journalists’ workshop on “Role of journalists in rebuilding tourism image under present situation.”  
At Banquet Hall, Hotel Abakash, Mohakhali, Dhaka, at 10.30 am today, says a press release  
Minster for Civil Aviation and Tourism Rashed Khan Menon will inaugurate the workshop as the chief guest.

World Sufi Parliament launched 
Sufi researchers and spiritual leaders of different countries yesterday launched a forum named “World Sufi Parliament” at this port city Chittagong with an aim to regenerate among Muslims the Islamic spirit of interfaith harmony and inclusiveness.
“The aim of the World Sufi Parliament is to work for promoting global peace through instilling among people particularly the Muslims the spiritual teachings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH,” chief coordinator of newly formed forum Syed Saifuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari told a media briefing.
He said the forum was inspired by the approach of Sufi saints who spread the Prophet’s message in subsequent centauries across the world while the recent emergence of extremism in the name of Islam prompted the followers of Sufi school of thoughts in different countries to join hands in floating the World Sufi Parliament.
