Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s (CPA) executive committee Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has urged parliamentarians from all member states to motivate the younger generations on democracy, reports UNB.
Dr Shirin, who ran for the CPA chair’s post as Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament, winning handsomely, made the call while addressing the 62nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in London on Friday, according to a handout of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat on Saturday.
This year’s seven-day CPA annual conference is set to conclude yesterday, having started with the theme ‘Collaborative Commonwealth: Unity, Diversity and Common Challenges’.
Chairing the main session of the conference, Dr Shirin said the CPA has been working to flourish democratic practices as well as motivating the present generation about the benefits of democracy.
