Federation of Television Professionals Organisation (FTPO), a platform of professionals working in television will stage sits-in in front of four of the country's TV stations demanding they stop airing foreign tv serials dubbed in Bangla, reports UNB.
The protest on four fronts was announced at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) yesterday.
Starting with Deepto Television, which has probably benefited most from the practice with their successful airing of Turkish mega-serial Sultan Suleyman, on December 19 (Monday) they will then move on to ETV, SATV and Maasranga television on December 19, 20, 28 and 29 respectively. The starting time each day will be 11am, and the sit-in may last two hours each day.
They said that this sit -in programme will call for foreign series dubbed in Bangla to be taken off air totally and will seek the channels’ cooperation in meeting their demands as soon as possible.
With the slogan "Shilpey baachi shilpo baachai" (Living Art, Saving Art), Bangladeshi actors, directors and crew who work in television formed a day-long protest at the Central Shahid Minar in the capital on November 30 presenting a set of 5 demands.
On that day they set a 15-day ultimatum to the four private channels to comply with their demands. The platform also sent their five demands to the government to implement by January 1, 2017.
Convener of the organisation Mamunur Rashid, General Secretary of the organisation Anzam Masud and President of the Directors' Guild Gazi Rakayet were, among others, present at the press conference.
