First year JU admission begins Sunday
SAVAR: The authority of Jahangirnagar University (JU) has reset December 18 to start admission into first year honors course under the academic session 2016-17.
The enrolment of successful candidates in admission tests was scheduled to be started from December 8. But the university authority postponed the admission process on same day for an indefinite period in the face of left-leaning students’ organizations protest for cancellation of the “department development fee”, a JU press release said. However, presided over by JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam, the central admission committee on December 11 decided to start the admission from merit list on December 18 without making any change into department development fee. But, leaders and activists of the students’ organizations rejected the decision and declared to besiege the administrative building from December 15 for indefinite period for the same demand. Responding to the students’ protest programme, the university authority on December 13 held an emergency meeting and decided to continue the admission process from December 18 with warn of taking stern action against those who will make any barriers in admission process, the release added. The authority also urged the students’ leaders to withdraw the protest programme and to cooperate in admission process, it said.
