Bangladesh national team, under the name of The Bangladesh Cricket Board XI is set to end their Sydney camp with a practice match against Australian Big Bash team Sydney Thunder today at Spotless Stadium in Sydney.
Bangladesh beat another Big Bash team Sydney Sixers by seven wickets by D/L method in a rain-affected first warm up on Wednesday. In the T20 game, they had fielded a team sans Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mustafizur Rahman. The former two have the chance to play the second game while the team management may keep Mustafizur out from the game, considering the fact the pace sensation had just come off a long injury lay-off.
Thunder will have Australian paceman Pat Cummins is available for the first time since BBL04. England captain Eoin Morgan is set to play his first game at Spotless Stadium also. Thunder expected Bangladesh to field a strong and in form side as they look to shape their squad for their tour of New Zealand.
Tamin Iqbal has been in sublime form with the bat in T20 cricket, smashing six half centuries and topping the run scorers list during the recently completed Bangladesh Premier League.
Left arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan showed why he’s considered one of the best all-rounders in the world, collecting 13 wickets in 14 matches and boasting an average of 20.54 with the bat. Squad member Sabbir Rahman will be one to watch at Spotless Stadium with the big hitter slamming 377 runs in the BPL at an average of 26.92.
Pace bowlers Rubel Hossain and Taskin Ahmed also had successful BPL tournaments - taking 15 wickets each - and could force their way into the starting XI.
Bangladesh however would be delighted with the form of Soumya Sarkar who was in prolonged poor form. In the first match he scored a nine ball-20 to set up the platform to gun down the total when Bangladesh needed 11 runs per over to win the match. He also took three wickets in just one over.
Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim stretched their BPL form to the warm up game which was another exciting news for Bangladesh.
With more than 5000 tickets already sold and Sydney Thunder Members enjoying free admission to the fixture there is likely to be a big crowd on hand, Thunder said in their website.
Ahead of the game, Bangladesh didn’t have any practice on Thursday but they met psychologist Phil Jauncy to spend a session with him.
