Bangladesh Bijoy Utsab in Kolkata

To mark the Liberation War of Bangladesh and its independence in 1971, Bangladesh deputy high commission in Kolkata has organised a five-day festival titled ‘Bijoy Utsab’ at Netaji Indoor stadium in Kolkata. This is the first time the Bangladesh mission in Kolkata is organizing such a programme.
The festivities will start today, a day ahead of the victory day and will continue till December 19.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu will inaugurate the five-day Bangladesh Bijoy Utsab in Kolkata, India today. The minister left here for Kolkata yesterday morning and is scheduled to return tomorrow, a ministry release said.
The inaugural ceremony of the festival will be attended by West Bengal minister Firhad Hakim and Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Jokey Ahad.
In the festival,  artistes of Nrityanchal will perform a dance-drama ‘Ami Banglar Gaan Gaai’. Choreographed by Shamim Ara Nipa, 30 artistes, including Shibly Mohammad and Nipa, will attend the dance-drama.
The five-day festival will also feature music performance, where noted singers from Bangladesh—Sabina Yasmin, Kumar Biswajit, SI Tutul, Dinat Jahan Munni, band Feedback and Lalon will perform on different days.
Besides cultural events, the festival will screen films and documentaries based on the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
For the foodies of Kolkata, arrangements for Bangladeshi delicacies like Kacchi Biriyani, Bhuna Kichuri, Pitha, Sandesh and various other sweets will be there. In addition, there will also be around 30-40 stalls with Bangladeshi artifacts, including the world famous Dhakai Jamdani, Rajshahi Silk and Tangail sarees, in the festival.
