Speakers at a view exchange meeting on Monday called upon recruiting agencies to open a labour market in Malaysia for Bangladeshi workers.
The meeting was organised by the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) at Gulshan Club on Monday night.
They warned that Bangladeshi workers, who go to Malaysia with student, tourist, or transit visas, would have trouble if a labour market is not opened in Malaysia soon.
The BAIRA leaders alleged that a section with vested interests is trying to create obstacles in the opening of a labour market in Malaysia.
They said opening a labour market in Malaysia under the Government-to-Government Plus (G2G Plus) agreement would help thousands of Bangladeshi workers to go to Malaysia at a lower cost. The remittance flow will also increase significantly.
The leaders assured the owners of recruitment agencies that they would have enough business if they opened the labour market in Malaysia.
Presided over by former BAIRA president Golam Mostafa, the meeting was addressed, among others, by BAIRA president Benjir Ahmed, former president Mohammed Noor Ali, secretary-general Ruhul Amin Swapan, and vice-presidents Kazi Mohammed Mofizur Rahman and Mohammed Samsuzzaman.
The BAIRA leaders said the government has sent Malaysia a list of 745 recruitment agencies. The Malaysian government could choose the agencies based on their experience and image. But BAIRA will try to make sure that all its members get the opportunity to send manpower to Malaysia.
Bangladesh signed the G2G Plus agreement with Malaysia last February. Under the agreement, the Malaysian government would recruit 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers over three years in the agricultural, plantation, and manufacturing sectors.
