Prices of vegetables fall on good supply

Prices of winter vegetables have gradually come down with the arrival of different kinds of huge vegetables in the local markets of the district, reports BSS.
Some traders of the district town said prices of vegetables have declined with the adequate supply of winter vegetables in the whole sale and retail markets.
Different kinds of winter vegetables grew aplenty in Shibpur, Belabo and Raipura upazilas of the district this Robi season,
Now bean, brinjal and beet are selling at Taka 800 to 1000 per maund, cauliflower and cabbage are selling at Taka 1,500 to 2000 per hundred, gourd and pumpkin are selling at Taka 2,000 to 3,000 per hundred according to size, tomato at Taka 1,600 to 2,000 per maund, potato at Taka 1,000 to 1,200 per maund, radish are selling at Taka 200 to 250 per maund and lalshak, palongshak are selling at Taka 800 to 1000 per maunds, sources said.
Narsingdi district, a vegetable surplus area, usually supplies 30 to 40 percent of its total production to the capital city and other districts after meeting the local demand.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official said a target to producing 1,75,000 tonnes of winter vegetables from 9,100 hectares of land was fixed but the farmers cultivated more land than the target in the district. Deputy Director of DAE Latafat Hossain said that farmers of the district have started growing chemical and pesticide free vegetables using organic fertilizer.
DAE has given the necessary help and logistic support to the farmers and providing training on producing pesticide free vegetables, he said.
