BSS

Taking part in open discussion at a seminar here, professionals and development activists mentioned concerted efforts of all government and non-government organizations could be the effective means of ensuring human rights everywhere in the society, reports BSS.
They viewed only the government or any other single organisation is not capable to ensure human rights and unequivocally called for forging a social resistance against all sorts of human rights violation.
Funded by UKAID through Maxwell Stamp-PLC, Light House Consortium under its ‘Improved Justice and Legal Aid Services (IJLAS) project’ organized the seminar under the Community Legal Services Programme.
“Stand up for someone’s Rights Today” was the main theme of the seminar held at Hotel Warishan in Rajshahi metropolis recently.
Additional Commissioner (Revenue) of Rajshahi division Aminul Islam addressed the seminar as chief guest saying all quarters including the service providers should come forward and work together for freeing the society from human rights violation.
With Executive Chief of Light House Harun-Or-Rashid in the chair, District Legal Aid Officer Selim Reza, Senior Judicial Magistrate Bikash Kumar, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Farhana Haque and Deputy Director of Department of Social Service Rubina Yeasmin spoke as special guests.
During his keynote presentation Nicholas Biswas, Team Leader of IJLAS, gave an overview of his project activities benefitting the poor and underprivileged litigants.
Among others, Divisional Head of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association Advocate Deel Sitara Chuni, Advocate Amzad Hossain and Journalists Akbarul Hassan Millat and Anwarul Alam Fatik took part in open discussion.
Advocate Chuni said the rate of human rights violation has gradually been increasing in the society due to various reasons like corruption, poverty and illiteracy. But, the human rights situation should be improved collectively for welfare of the nation.
