ACC warns ‘corrupt’ Rajuk officials

Describing people as the principal while public servants as only agents, acting chairman of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Md Nasiruddin Ahmed yesterday urged the government officials to properly provide services to people, reports UNB.
“They (government officials) must behave decently with service seekers and resolve their problems following rules,” he said while addressing a public hearing at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in the capital.
The national anti-graft agency arranged its 35th public hearing on the services of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).
Nasiruddin said the ACC is informed that some Rajuk officials misbehave with services receivers, which is not expected at all since common people, as per the country’s constitution, are the main source of power.
Expressing his dissatisfaction over the services of the city development authority, he said Rajuk must regain people’s trust through its work and ensuring transparency and accountability at individual and intuitional levels.
The ACC commissioner stressed the importance of implementing the Right to Information Act 2009 to bringing transparency and accountability in Rajuk.
Mentioning that they are following a zero-tolerance policy to corruption, he said, “Nobody is above the law. If we get specific graft allegations, we’ll conduct probe into every allegation,” he said.
ACC Commissioner AFM Aminul Islam said he hoped that the Rajuk officials will fulfill all the pledges they made at the public hearing yetserday.
A total of 40 Rajuk service seekers came up with their allegations at the hearing.
Rujuk chairman M Bazlul Karim Chowdhury, ACC director general Farid Uddin Ahmed and its director Nasim Anwar, among others, spoke at the public hearing.
