State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki yesterday expressed her firm conviction that girls will full protection through the child marriage prevention law, reports BSS. “It is a time-befitting, pragmatic and effective law. I am hundred percent sure that the girl children will get protection though this law,” she said speaking as the chief guest at a function in Manikganj District Council auditorium.
The function was held on the occasion of distribution sewing machines and loans among poor women and certificates among participants of a computer training course for women, said an official release.
The state minister said a special provision has been kept in Child Marriage Prevention Act for the protection of girls falling victims to unexpected incidents.
The ministry will monitor round-the-clock so that this special provision cannot be misused, she said, adding that there should be no misinterpretation of this law. The law prohibits marrying off girls before 18, she asserted.
The state minister said the ministry for women and children affairs will start income-generating training for women in all upazilas.
Presided over by Manikganj Deputy Commissioner Rasheda Ferdous, the function was also attended by Women Affairs Department Director General Shahin Ahmed Chowdhury, Computer Training Project Director Faisal Shah, Manikganj Municipality Mayor M Selim and District Awami League President Golam Mohiuddin, among others.
