Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated an advanced Call Centre to provide all types of information to the Value Added Tax (VAT) payers at a programme on the National VAT Day 2016 at the under-construction building of NBR at Agargaon in Dhaka yesterday.
16555 is the hotline number of the VAT call centre service where all types of information are to be provided by the NBR. The finance minister made a test call to the call centre and asked questions regarding the VAT information while inaugurating the call centre services.
The two-day VAT day was a part of the 7-day-long National VAT Week programme 2016. NBR on last day of ‘VAT day’ honoured 30 oragnisations which comprises 9 companies from national level, four customs houses, excise and VAT commissionerate and 21 entities from large taxpayer unit (LTU).
While attending as a chief guest Finance Minister AMA Muhith said VAT is an indirect tax in the revenue management system. Businessmen have collected VAT from the people and deposit the amount to the national treasury of the government.
“To strengthen the VAT management we are going to implement ‘Value added tax and supplementary tariff Act 2012’ and VAT online from the month of July next year”. Muhith also said.
Muhith distributed the awards to the winners of the respective institutions at the occasion.
The winners were selected from three categories; manufacturing, service and business. In the manufacturing sector; the top three companies were--Star Ceramics, Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd, Super Petro Chemical private Ltd.
However, in the service sector One World Aviation Ltd grabbed the award along with two other companies, Chowdhury Tea Warehouse and Mastermind School in Dhanmondi.
NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman also addressed the last day of the ‘VAT day and said the taxpayers have created a record of paying income tax at the tax fair which held on November.
It is expected that businessmen and people would create the same record by giving VAT in the month of December, Nojibur Rahman also added.
Earlier, Nojibur Rahman inaugurated the ‘VAT learning forum’ as a part of the day long programme. ‘VAT learning forum’ is an initiative taken by the NBR to create awareness among the people through learning perspective.
The director of VAT online project Rezaul Hasan presented a keynote paper at the programme. Rezaul Hasan has descried three things; online VAT services, VAT law 2012, advanced contact centre to his keynote paper.
During his presentation he has also shown the new web-portal of NBR and challenges of change management activities.
The key strategy objective of NBR is to promote the VAT-GDP ration from 3.7 per cent to 4.7 per cent from this project.
According to NBR, this year they have delivered 25 lakh e-TIN number to the tax payers of the country.
A couple of strategically objectives are set by the NBR of which to tract the VAT area is their prime objective.
NBR is collaborated with Digicon to provide the business process outsourcing (BPO) of the call centre.
