Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said behind the smokescreen of democracy, Khaleda Zia and the party she headed—Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)— were trying to protect militants. The minister, also president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, said this at a meeting at Colonel Taher auditorium at Bangabandhu Avenue yesterday, soon after returning from the 11th Internet Governance Forum in Mexico, reports BSS. Organised by the city coordination committee of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, the meeting was chaired by the party’s city coordinator Mir Hossain Akhter.
The minister in his speech further said one had to boycott the patrons of militancy if the scourge of militancy was to be uprooted. “At a time when the whole nation was united to defeat militancy, Khaleda Zia remained steadfastly with them,” he said. He further said that it was not only militancy that BNP was patronising, but in the past the same party had also rehabilitated all evil forces including the anti-liberation elements. “If the nation was to eliminate militancy, Khaleda Zia needed to be boycotted, politically, and tried for her many crimes,” he said. “The reproduction center of militancy must be destroyed if militancy was to be uprooted, “he said. Other Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal central and city leaders including central committee vice presidents Iqbal Hossain Khan and Advocate Habibur Rahman Shawkat also spoke on the occasion.
