Injury marks were found on the body of Bangladesh Chhatra League central leader Irfan Chowdhury Diaz, who was found hanged at his residence in Hathazari upazila on November 20, said doctors yesterday after his second autopsy, reports UNB. Dr Sohel Mahmud, head of the Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said a three-member team of the department, headed by himself, conducted the second autopsy on Diaz and found some injury marks on it. “But the reason behind his death still not clear,” he said. Diaz’s teeth and tissue of neck was collected for a viscera report and the things will be clear once the viscera report is in hand, he added. The two other members of the medical team are Dr Pradeep Biswas and Dr Kabir Hossain.
In compliance with a court order, Diaz’s body was dug out from the grave at Chittagong University (CU) on December 10 and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for a fresh autopsy. The body of Diaz, also a former joint secretary of CU unit BCL, was found hanging from his bedroom ceiling fan at his family’s rented house in Gate-2 area of the university on November 20. On November 23, an autopsy report mentioned that Diaz hanged himself.
However, his family rejected the report saying Diaz was killed in a planned way by his rivals following a dispute over tender for the construction of some university buildings. Jaheda Amin Chowdhury, mother of Diaz, filed the case with the Chittagong Judicial Magistrate’s Court the next day against ten people, including the president of CU unit Chhatra League.
