A young man was shot dead by unknown miscreants in broad daylight in the port city yesterday around 12:30pm, a few hundred metres from the Kotowali Police Station.
The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Manik, 32, a member Swechchhasebak League of Chittagong city unit and a resident of the city’s Alakarone area.
“Unidentified assailants opened fire targeting Manik while he was coming by a rickshaw from Chittagong court building area”. “Manik had personal enmity with Md Rana over its ownership.
They also involved in counter cases each other. Rana was arrested in a case lodged by the deceased and Rana was released on bail before 15 days. So over the murder incident we suspecting that it was the personal enmity,” said Mohammad Jashim Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station.
Police and eye witness said that when the rickshaw carrying Manik reached Memon Hospital of Sadarghat some 8-10 people attacked him.
“Manik died by bullet injuries and we detained Rana from the spot,” said the OC.
Police seized one-round of bullet from the spot. Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) sources said, local people brought Manik to the hospital and the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
