BNP yesterday trashed Democracy International’s survey report that BNP will only get five percent vote if any election is held now, saying the finding is not only absurd, but also a travesty of truth, reports UNB. “The survey report says Awami League will get 38 percent vote while BNP five percent if a national election is held now. It’s a part of a deep-rotted conspiracy,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a press briefing, he questioned about the procedure of selecting samples, collecting information and data analysis of the survey. “There’s no similarity between the reality and survey findings.”
He doubted that government’s statistics on the polling stations that were snatched and witnesses unilateral voting under the current regime may be the main source of survey.
The US-based Democracy International with the support of USAID and UK Aid conducted the survey from October 23 to October 31, and disclosed its findings on Friday.
Rizvi said law and order sharply deteriorated, and the incidents of killing extrajudicial killings, rape and torture are going
unabated and the human rights are at
stake in the country under the rule current government.
He questioned how the government can enjoy that much of popularity.  “It’s only a mockery with the people who lost their democracy. It can easily be understood that this survey is also a part of an international master plan.”
The BNP’s leader observed that no undemocratic government in the world could gain popularity anytime. “The government has made killing and bloodletting as its programme to cling to programme.”
Meanwhile,  BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 20-party leaders yesterday launched electioneering in favour of their mayoral candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan in Narayanganj City Corporation polls billed for December 22.
They started their campaign from Mid Town area in the NCC around 11am seeking vote for 20-party candidate Shakhawat.
Fakhrul and the alliance leaders also carried out the campaign in Kalibazar, Galachipa and Chashara areas distributing leaflets in favour of ‘sheaf of paddy’.
