“In Bangladesh about 2 crore of people are suffering from any sorts of kidney diseases, the treatment cost of this disease is so high that at least 10 percent of patients cannot afford it, as a result most of the country’s kidney patients die without treatment, whereas only the awareness can prevent nearly 50 to 60 percent of kidney failure. For this what is needed is to be habituated with sound lifestyle from early of childhood”, said Professor Dr MA Samad, chief consultant of the Department of Nephrology, Lab Aid Specialized Hospital, also chairman of Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS).
He said this at the concluding ceremony of the weeklong camp organsied by Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society at Old Bus Stand in Tangail, says a press release.
Beginning on December 3, the weeklong camp was ended on Friday through a formal concluding ceremony at the Tangail Press Club.
Professor Dr MA Samad presided over the concluding ceremony and also presented keynote paper in the session, styled “Kidney disease fearsome but preventable”.
1040 people were screened for chronic kidney disease, diabetes and hypertension and treatment was given free of cost in the programme.Member of Parliament of Women Preserved Seat Monowara Begum attended the concluding ceremony as the chief guest while Deputy Commissioner of Tangail Mahbub Hossain was present as special guest.
