Reining champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club dropped points again in the JB Bangladesh Premier League Football after a goalless draw with Brothers Union yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
It was sixth draw for the defending champions when they could manage only eight wins out of 19 encounters and suffered five defeats.
The down trend of the previous two editions’ champions of the Premier League started from late in the first-leg when they suffered three matches in a row (last two of first-leg and first one of second-leg).
Looking to bounce back in the second leg, Jamal began the campaign with defeat and have been dropping points regularly when they conceded defeat in the previous match against Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra.
But after 19th round, they remained on third position in the points table with 30 points while Brothers Union collected 24 points from 19 matches.
Sheikh Jamal, who already out of the championship race played with a bit better possessions and also produced better scoring chances against Brothers yesterday but some feeble efforts of strikers failed to crop in from easy chances.
Brothers, who displayed tremendous attacking approach in their maximum previous games but did not get deserving results, were also played with same attitude against Jamal and went very close to take lead producing chance in the very eighth minute.
But a close range effort of Komol on an Augustin Walson went out kissing the cross piece.
Jamal sounded well with a sharp attack down the left side but Emeka could not keep the ball into post with a close range header on a left side cross from Landing on 18th minute.
Emeka Darlington wasted the day’s easiest chance on 38th minute when the Nigerian looked very shaky to shot the ball over the cross bar when the Brothers goalkeeper Sabuj Das advanced leaving the post open.
After the goalless first half Jamal again get closer to make the break through but this time forward Sarwar Nipu also sent the ball over the cross piece having the open net on 62nd minute.
Brothers had the day’s last opportunity to score but their key performer Augustin Walson shot the ball straight to Jamal goalkeeper being in a good position inside the box.
