The International Human Rights Day was observed in the country yesterday as elsewhere across the globe, reports UNB.
The UN General Assembly proclaimed December 10 as Human Rights Day in 1950 with a view to bringing to the attention ‘of the peoples of the world’ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.
Various rights groups have chalked out elaborate programmes, including discussion, rally and human chain, to mark the day. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has issued a message on the occasion.
In her message, Hasina said, “I, on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, reaffirm Bangladesh’s unwavering commitment to upholding the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all people around the globe as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”
