Faridpur: A daylong workshop on violence against women and to find out its remedial measures organized by local NGO Racine network was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday, reports BSS. DC Umme Salma Tanzia attended the workshop as the chief guest while Police Super Subhash Chandra Saha and Faridpur Medical College Principal DR. S.M. Khabiruddin Ahmed were present as special guests.
Committee for Resistance against violence against Children and women committee chairman Bela Rani Sarkar was in the chair.
Presenting the key-note paper titled ‘Stop Violence Against Women’(SVAW) describing the situation of violence against women in the district on power point Executive Director of Racine Asma Akhtar Muta disclosed January 16 to November 16 at least 243 incidents of different types of violence against women occurred.
The presenter also pointed out the violence incidents included killing, attempt of killing, rape, mass rape, suicide, physical torture, acid throwing and other violence. The incidents of violence mostly occurred in economically vulnerable families, she added.
