Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday stressed the need for a concerted effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, reports UNB.
“The present government is pledge-bound to implement Sustainable Development Goals. As Bangladesh has shown unprecedented success in achieving Millennium Development Goals, the country will set a unique example regarding implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals also,” he said.
The minister said this while addressing the unveiling ceremony of a handbook on mapping ministries according to targets in the implementation of the SDGs, aligning with the 7th Five Year Plan (2016-2020) organised by General Economics Division of the Planning Commission held at NEC Conference Room at Agargaon, according to a PID handout.
Mentioning that times are challenging for Bangladesh at the moment as the countries of East Asia and Middle East are moving forward quickly in the economic and technological sectors, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said Bangladesh has moved forward significantly regarding alleviation of ultra-poverty but still lags behind regarding business and trade and employment.
