Dhaka Dynamites are determined to come out all guns blazing to justify the tag of ‘hot favourite’ for one last time as they take on Rajshahi Kings in the final of BPL-4 today at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. This will be the third final in the cash-rich tournament for the Dhaka franchise which won the title on previous two occasions in the name of Dhaka Gladiators. For Rajshahi who earlier played as ‘Duronto Rajshahi’, it would be the first final in the tournament. Shakib Al Hasan was the part of winning the title on one occasion with Dhaka when Mashrafe Bin Mortaza led the side. This time, he shrewdly led a star-studded Dhaka Dynamites to the final. A team that has all ammunitions to fire and considering the performance throughout the tournament, Dhaka’s defeat would be an upset.
Even though Rajshahi’s performance lately was improved hugely, Dhaka got some genuine T20 match winners in Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Shakib Al Hasan. Bravo is the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket and repeatedly showed how good bowlers he is at the death overs while Russell and Shakib could take the game away with both batting and bowling what they proved in the tournament so far. There are players like Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Nasir Hossain who also could be handy with both departments. Dhaka however got a talented opener in Mehedi Maruf who batting suits the T20 style nicely. He is one of the discovers of the tournament alongside some other players. Maruf’s attacking batting up front led a solid platform for most of the matches for Dhaka.
West Indies opener Evin Lewis had already showed what damage he could do and with Sangakkara also in the top order, Dhaka’s batting line up is well balanced that they proved time and again.
Like Dhaka, Rajshahi Kings also got an all-rounder-filled team, led by Darren Sammy. It also included Samit Patel, Mehedi Hasan, Farhad Reza, James Franklin and young Afif Hossain. They have got a mix of veterans and rookies but they have done the job on many occasions during the BPL this year.
Rajshahi’s bowling attack also includes Kesrick Williams and Nazmul Islam, two bowlers who have been miserly whenever they have been pushed to win a game. There is also Sabbir Rahman who after his epic century could do nothing to justify the tag of Bangladesh’s best T20 batsman. But he spent some time in the crease in the Qualifier-2 match and is expected to unleash his best in the most crucial game.
“We know we are stronger side on paper. But you have to show your best on the field. Rajshahi is not a bad team. They have some good players who could take the game away. So we have to ensure that we would come up with our best,” said Dhaka all-rounder Nasir Hossain. If any player could give Dhaka a genuine headache, he is Darren Sammy who played some match winning knocks to help the side win from a precarious situation. Nasir is aware of what Sammy could do. “We are not thinking about him. We have also got some players who could take the game away.”
