Bangladesh National Museum (BNM) has arranged a 15-day group art exhibition featuring the artworks of four late master painters— Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, Potua Quamrul Hassan, SM Sultan and Shafiuddin at its Nalini Kanta Bhattashali Gallery, as a part of the month-long ongoing 17th Asian Art Biennale 2016. The exhibition is showcasing a total of 89 artworks by four master painters; among these, 32 artworks by Zainul Abedin, 32 artworks by Quamrul Hassan, 11 artworks by SM Sultan and 14 artworks by Shafiuddin.
Presided over by BNM Director General Faizul Latif Chowdhury, eminent artist Syed Jahangir inaugurated the exhibition on the premises of BNM on Monday, while noted artist and freedom fighter Shahabuddin Ahmed was present as special guest.
At the inaugural ceremony artist Shahabuddin Ahmed said in his speech, “The artists of Bangladesh earned international fame because of the contribution of the respected artists like Zainul Abedin, Potua Quamrul Hassan, SM Sultan and Shafiuddin. I feel proud to introduce myself as a Bangladeshi.”
Bangladesh National Museum is devoted to archaeology, classical, decorative and contemporary art, history, natural history, ethnography and world civilization. Bangladesh National Museum has splendid collections which range in date from prehistory to the present time. As a part of this collection, the artworks of Zainul Abedin, Potua Quamrul Hassan, SM Sultan, Shafiuddin and other renowned artists are put on display at the National Museum.
The exhibition is open to all until December 21 and can be visited according to the following schedule— Saturday to Wednesday from 10am to 4:30 pm, Friday from 3pm to 7:30pm; Closed on Thursday.
