AL leader found dead

Police recovered the beheaded body of a local Awami League leader from Baroy village in Bhuapur upazila of the district yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam Farid, 55, former organising secretary of Bhuapur upazila unit Awami League.
Officer-in-charge of Bhuapur Police Station AKM Kawser Chowdhury said Rafiqul went missing since Monday night. He worked at a mill in Kagmari Para of the upazila and did not return home on Monday night. After a frantic search, local people spotted the body of Rafiqul near his house at Baroy village at about 10 am and informed police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Tangail Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A case was filed in this connection, the OC said.
14 ‘robbers’ arrested

A team of Navy personnel nabbed 14 alleged robbers along with a fishing trawler while taking preparation to commit robbery in the Bay of Bengal, adjacent to Kuakata sea shore, early yesterday.
The law enforcers also rescued four abducted fishermen and seized 10 maunds of hilsa. The arrested people are inhabitants of Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban districts.
Officer-in-charge of Mahipur Police Station Maniruzzaman said based on secret information Navy personnel detained them while they were taking preparation to commit robbery in the Bay. Later, the arrestees were handed over to Mahipur police.   A case was filed in this connection.
Farmer killed in Kishoreganj

A farmer was allegedly murdered in Tarail upazila of the district on Monday.
The deceased was Jasim Uddin, 28, an inhabitant of Teoria village in the upazila.
Police quoting local people said Jasim went out from his house on Sunday evening but did not return. Local people found his body near a graveyard on Monday morning and informed police. Later, police recovered the body.
Khandakar Shawkat Jahan, officer-in-charge of Tarail Police Station, said the body bore several injury marks.
Jasim might have been killed following previous enmity, the OC said.
