Chuadanga Free Day today

Chuadanga district was freed from the clutches of Pakistani Army on December 7. This day will be observed by different socio-organisations and political party including Chuadanga Muktijoddha Sangsad and Awami League in a befitting manner. All day long programmes will be arranged including hoisting of flag, rally, discussion meeting, cultural function and showing of short film on freedom fight to mark the day.   
The people of the district celebrate the day every year with great joy, pride enthusiasm as the flag of the independent Bangladesh fluttered in the free sky of Chuadanga at first after nine months grim battle against the occupation forces.It may be mentioned here, Chuadanga was declared as first capital of Bangladesh on April 10 in 1971. Several committees were formed for fighting against the Pakistani army.
Pakistani occupation army captured Chuadanga district on April 16, 1971. They shot to death about 400 people at Sorojgonj bazaar and set fire on houses and shops on the day. In Chuadanga town over 150 common people were killed by the occupation army on the day.
On August 5 in 1971 a fight occurred between Pakistani army and freedom fighters at village Jogonnathpur-rotonpur in Damurhuda upazila of the district. At least 8 freedom fighters were killed by the Pakistani army in the gunfight. The martyred are Kiamuddin, Hasanzaman, Abul Kashem, Rowshan Ali, Robiul Islam, Alaul Islam Khakon, Afazuddin and Tarek Rahman. Local people buried them at village Jogonnathpur in then Damurhuda thana.
 A momentum of the 8 martyred and one rest house were built on one acre of land under the direct initiative of Freedom fighter Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP. A park is also established there. A memorial for liberation is erected in the district town under the auspices of Chuadanga pourasabha.
