Some major private companies and organisations have joined hands with United Nations Volunteers and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to work on identifying the development priorities and the best practices for sharing by businesses, reports BSS.
The organisations are--Microsoft, Banglalink, BSRM Steel, Standard Chartered Bank, Walton, BUILD, Chaldal, Bangladesh Garment Manu-facturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bitopi Group and Green Delta Insurance.
Senior representatives from these organisations at a roundtable held in the UN Offices expressed their strong commitment to participate in a joint work-plan for development to be executed in 2017.
The event was organised by UNDP to provide an opportunity for private businesses to share best practices and discuss development priorities in the country. The representatives also agreed to explore joint partnerships both with UNV and UNDP and with other private businesses.
At the event, the private sector partners got a preview of the new Innovation Hub that the two UN agencies are jointly establishing to provide a working space for partners to use from the very inception of development projects.
"We will help private companies to be recognised as socially and environmentally responsible. Today we start building a shared vision for 2017 and beyond," said Sudipto Mukerjee, UNDP Bangladesh country director.
