Abahani Limited overpowered their arch-rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club by 2-1 to put another step ahead to regain the title of the JB Bangladesh Premier League football yesterday at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj.
Abahani Limited, who bagged the 12th victory out of 18 outings, remained unbeaten when they stretched their tally to 42 points and led by five points from their closest contenders Chittagong Abahani when the Port City outfit earned 37 points from 18 matches.
However, all three goals of the match were scored after a goalless first session when Lee Tuck broke the deadlock on 51st and Sunday Chizoba doubled the margin for Abahani on 80th and Poumi Laundry reduced one in the injury period.
Mohammedan Sporting Club managed 17 points from 18 matches and if they fail to manage at least two victories from their remaining four matches. will fell into relegation threat.
Abahani Limited, the four times winners of the Professional League, were on fire just on the second minute with building up a quick move down the left side. Abahani keeping the tempo went on attack sharp attack and broke the deadlock of the goalless first half through Lee Tuck converting a penalty right on the fourth minute when Mohammedans’ goalkeeper Nehal just blocked goal-bound Jewel Rana without ball inside the area and referee Mizanur Rahman called for spot kick and the English booter did not miss to mark the target on 51st (1-0).
Sunday Chizoba finally found the net on 80th minute with Wahed Ahmed well turned-out a cross and the Nigerian was very speedy to get the ball in his possession and beat goalkeeper before sending he ball into far post from a narrowly angle (2-0) to get his 19th goal in the league.
After going down by 0-2, Mohammedan looked to come out with some positive moves and also fabricated some good attacks and reduced one goal on the last minute of four minutes added time with Poumi Laundry netted off a Shahed cross (1-2).
