Tamim reaches BPL
1000-run club

Left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal became the third batsman after Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad to cross the threshold of the 1000-run club in the BPL history yesterday.

Tamim reached the landmark when he drove the first full-length delivery of medium pacer Darren Sammy’s second over for boundary to long-off.
The hard-hitting opener had started the BPL eliminator match with 975 runs and prepared to be the third batsman in the
BPL folklore score 1000 runs what he did without making any big slip-up.
Tamim’s marauding innings of 51 off 46 with half-a-dozen boundary finally were able Chittagong Vikings to set 143-run target that was enough to defend for them on this surface against Rajshahi Kings, who were seemed to be more reorganized in the late quarter of the BPL-4.
With 51 the swashbuckling opener struck so far six half centuries from 13-match road string. In BPL-2016, he made the highest of 476 runs with the best figure of 75. Riyad followed him with 369.
Tamim has opportunity to make another record of highest score in single BPL tournament that Ahmed Shehzad did 486 runs from 12 matches in the maiden edition, 2012. Now Tamim is just 10 runs away from the record.
Tamim Iqbal, who led Chittagong-Rajshahi-Chittagong in the last editions, this time captained Chittagong Vikings and touched the milestone playing 15 matches lesser than Mahmudullah (49) and 12 matches than Mushfiqur Rahim (46). He played so far 34 matches with the average of 117.39.
Earlier Mushfiqur Rahim touched the landmark as the first cricketer of the BPL. Rahim, who this time leads Barisal Bulls, scored so far 1172 runs off 46 matches with the best figures of 86. He was followed by Mahmudullah, who has a discrete record to play more matches in BPL beside the 1000-run.
Shakib Al Hasan, Ahmed Shehzad and Anamul Haque Bijoy were waiting to enter into the 1000-run club of the BPL. Of them, Ahmed Shehzad whose team, Comilla Vikings, already derailed from the group stage competition.
Dhaka Dynamites skipper Shakib is now very close to enter the 1000-run club as he is just 59 runs away from the feat. But he has every chance to cross the milestone. The spin all-rounder will get opportunity to play at least two matches of the BPL-4.
