Seventeen people deposed as witnesses in court against Badrul Alam, accused of attempting to murder Sylhet Government Women's College student Khadija Begum Nargis. The testimonies were recorded from 11am to 2pm in the court of the Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Saifuzzaman Hero.
District Court judge PP Misbah Uddin Siraj said 17 people had appeared before the court as witnesses against Alam. The witnesses included plaintiff Abdul Quddus, Khadija's uncle; Prof. Nitai Chandra Chanda, principal, MC College; vice-principal Prof. Hayatul Islam Akhanjee, eyewitnesses and Fahmida Islam and Imran Kabir. Earlier, on November 8, the investigating officer of Shahparan police station in the city had submitted a charge-sheet against Badrul, accusing him of attempting to murder Khadija. On November 15, the court accepted the charge-sheet, and, on October 19, ordered the trial to begin. On October 3, Khadija, a second-year graduate student of the Sylhet Government Women's College, was seriously injured with a ‘chapati’ by Badrul Alam, an irregular student of the Economics Department of the University of Science and Technology and assistant secretary of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit of the Chhatra League. He was arrested immediately after the incident. Abdul Quddus, Khadija’s uncle, filed a case against Badrul Alam.
