One team will be eliminated while one will confirm the final of the BPL-4, as the crucial phase of the tournament starts today with the Eliminator and Qualifier-1 game at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. In the first game of the day, Chittagong Vikings take on Rajshahi Kings in the Eliminator game. The loosers will be eliminated straightway but the winner would get another chance to seal the final spot as it will wait for the loosers of the Qualifier-1 game. Dhaka Dynamites, the pre-tournament favourite team who justified its tag with acquiring the top spot of the table in the league phase, face off Khulna Titans in the Qualifier-1 game. The winner of this game will confirm the final match straightway.
The looser of this game will take on the winner of the Eliminator game on Wednesday in the Qualifier-2 game to confirm the other final spot. Those two matches will be basically the rematch of the last two matches of the group phase. Rajshahi Kings defeated Chittagong Vikings in their last match by six wickets while Khulna Titans beat Dhaka Dynamites by identical margin. For Chittagong, the headache would be Chris Gayle who is yet to fire up front. For the sake of Gayle, Chittagong had to leave out inform Dwayne Smith.
Chittagong skipper Tamim Iqbal however expected Gayle to justify his mettle with the bat in the crucial game of the tournament. “A player like a caliber of Gayle could fire at any moment and if he gets his rhythm, you know he, solely, will be enough to destroy any team. I am not worried about him totally,” Tamim said. Gayle’s compatriot Darren Sammy is the captain of Rajshahi Kings. Sammy said they are looking to execute the plan against Gayle.
“The world knows what he is capable of. We have a plan against him but we need to execute it properly on the field.” Despite losing to Khulna Titans in the last match, Dhaka is outright favourite in the Qualifier-1 game. They have rested some of their key players in the previous game because of the match was a dead rubber for them.
“Last time we were in the top four but we lost the Eliminator game to be eliminated. This time we came here as a top team and have a chance to seal the final straightway. We don’t want to squander the chance,” said Dhaka’s youngster Mosaddek Hossain Saikat.
