BSS

A total of 36 crore 21 lakh 82 thousand and 245 copies free of cost text books to be distributed from primary to secondary level on 1st January have already been published, up by 2 crore 84 lakh 34 thousand 273 over the previous year's, reports BSS.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid disclosed it to the reporters while visiting the textbook printing press at the city's Matuail area in the capital on Sunday. Earlier he visited Mausumi Offset Press, National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), Bright Printing Press and Ananda Printing Press along with the concerned officials.
For the first time, the NCTB is printing brail books for the blind students of primary to secondary level, said the education minister, adding that even the books in own mother tongues will be distributed among the pre-primary level children of five ethnic minorities.
Informing that the textbooks will be sent to the school within next fifteen days, Nahid said "already 70-80 per cent books have reached the schools and it is expected that all the books would be sent to the school within next 15 days."
Nationwide Textbook Festival Day will be observed on January 1 next year like what was done in the previous years.
The student enrollment in the primary schools is increasing due to various initiatives taken by the government, reducing the number of drop out and that's why the number of books are increasing, the minister pointed out.
Last year, some 33 crore 37 lakhs 47thousand and 972 books were distributed while it is now rose to 36 crore 21 lakhs 82thousand and 245, said the minister. "The quality of the text books paper has been tested by the concerned experts," he said.
As per the agreement with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), three works of the primary level text books have been given to the foreign organisations. The rest of the books are printed through the local organisations, Nahid said.
A  total of 9,703 visually impaired students will get the Braille books this year and 24000 books will be distributed among the primary level students of five ethnic minorities.
