Top admin set for reshuffle today

As part of the ongoing shake-up in secretary-level positions in the civil administration, the government will transfer at least eight secretaries to different ministries and divisions from today. The public administration ministry has finalised the names of the secretaries who will be transferred, said sources in the ministry. After Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury was appointed the principal secretary to the Prime Minister, the post of senior secretary of the public administration ministry has been vacant. Following Chowdhury’s new posting, the government is likely to select senior secretary of the home ministry, Dr Mozammel Haque Khan, as the senior secretary of the public administration ministry. Again, senior secretary of the commerce ministry, Hedayetullah Al Mamoon, is likely to be posted as the senior secretary of the home ministry. Some secretaries working in different ministries are also likely to be transferred.
As the education ministry has been bifurcated into the Secondary and Higher Education Division and the Technical and Madrassah Education Division, one secretary-level official is likely to be posted soon as secretary for the Technical and Madrassah Education Division. The existing education secretary is likely to be posted as the secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division.
Besides, some additional secretaries of the 1984 and 1985 BCS batches are going to be posted as acting secretaries in different ministries and divisions as soon as some 10 secretaries retire this year. Currently, there are 73 secretaries working in different ministries and divisions. The government has already upgraded at least 50 posts in different departments to Grade 1 (secretary level).
A number of additional secretaries has been posted by the authorities to these posts as chiefs of the departments.
