Blue economy cell kicks off today

To explore the country's bay area for natural and mineral resources, the government has recently formed a Blue Economy Cell under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD).

Nasrul Hamid, state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources will inaugurate the cell today. 
The cell which is located at the Petro Center in Karwanbazar is headed by Additional Secretary Golam Fakhruddin Ahmed Chowdhury.
The cell has been formed for the exploration and sustainable collection, con-servation and management of natural and mineral resources under the part of Bangladesh's Bay of Bengal area.
Among the multi-disciplinary works which will be held from the cell are measuring and collecting ocean fisheries resource and hydrocarbon resources like oil and gas. It will also explore the potential of wind and tidal power in the bay area. The potential of developing ocean based tourism will also be conducted by the cell.
