Diagnostic centre sealed off
SYLHET: A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) -9 had shutdown a diagnostic centre in stadium market area of Sylhet on Saturday and fined other five centres Tk 17 lakh which had been operated with unskilled technicians and unhygienic way. A RAB release said the RAB mobile team led by executive magistrate M Sarwar Alam carried out the drive from 1pm to 10 pm and shut down the New Ibne Sina Diagnostic Centre for operating the diagnostic centre with unskilled technicians. The team also sentenced the manager and the Lab technician respectively one year and six months imprisonment.  
    The RAB mobile team had fined the manager and technicians Tk 16,75,000 from other five unskilled diagnostic centres in the district. The arrestees were sent to the jail and the money which was realized has been sent to the treasury.

Convicted prisoner dies in RMCH
RAJSHAHI: A convicted prisoner of the district jail died of cardiac arrest at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Ziarul Islam, 40, a resident of Matihar in the city. Sources at the RMCH said Ziarul was admitted to the hospital in the evening after he complained of chest pain. He died there around 7pm, the sources added.

Short film festival begins 
RAJSHAHI: The four-day 14th International short film festival began in Rajshahi yesterday with 'Free Film Free Expression' slogan.
Rajshahi Chalachitra Sangsad (RCS) organised the festival at Lalan Shah open stage in Pathanpara area. Prof Hassan Azizul Haque inaugurated it as chief guest. With RCS President Ahsan Kabir Liton in the chair, President of Ritwik Ghatak Film Society Dr FMA Zahid and President of Rajshahi University Film Society Dr Sazzad Bakul also spoke. More than 55 films of both home and abroad will be exhibited at Rajshahi's Lalan Mancha and Barakuthi Mancha from 5.30 to 7 pm. The exhibition will remain open for all till December 6. The event has been organised to infuse liberal beliefs among the new generation, said RCS President Ahsan Kabir Liton.

Nurturing literature to resist militancy stressed
Literary personalities and academicians at a conference here have laid emphasis on inspiring the youth community in nurturing literature, art and culture to become enlightened citizens, remain on the right track and resist militancy.
They expressed the opinion in the concluding ceremony of the Divisional Literary Conference-2016 held at the auditorium of Rangpur Museum (Tazhat Jaminder Bari) in the city on Thursday. Rangpur Bibhagiyo Lekhok Parisahd (BLP) organised the daylong conference in observance of the sixth founding anniversary of the reputed literary organisation. More than 400 literary personalities, including writers, poets, poem lovers and academicians, literary and socio-cultural personalities from Rangpur division participated in the conference.

Programmes to observe Victory Day in Khulna
Khulna district administration is set programmes to celebrate December 16 the 45th anniversary of the Bangalees glorious victory over the Pakistani occupation forces, pledging to establish a non-communal prosperous and developed Bangladesh.
To observe the day, elaborate programmes has been taken up at a meeting on November 15 in the conference room of deputy commissioner office. Elites, officials, educationists, journalists, political and cultural activists of the city attended in the meeting. The programme of the day placing of wreaths on the monument of Shaheed martyrs of Gallyamari after the sunrise on December 16. The day will be heralded by a 31-gun salute at dawn at the Khulna Police Line Ground.
