Ctg Abahani survive Arambagh scare

Sports Reporter

Defender Alison Uduka’s solo strike earned Chittagong Abahani Limited crucial three points against Arambagh Kriraa Sangha in the JB Banladesh Premier League football held at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj yesterday.

With this win, the Port City team remained in the title hunt and closed the gap with the Dhaka Abahani. As the Capital City outfit and reigning champions are on top with 39 points from 17 matches.
Chittagong Abahani, who appeared as title contenders this year since their participation in the Professional Football League faced some setbacks at the midway after dropping points against Dhaka Abahani, Sheikh Jamal, Rahmatganj MFS and a goalless draw with Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra.
But, when their rivals also dropped points they had the opportunity to come closer to the league leaders, as they are now only two points behind to the table toppers obtaining 37 points from 18 matches with this win.
Arambagh, one of the trouble makers for the giants, also looked stubborn to halt the Chittagong Abahani onslaught again, as their first leg meeting ended in a 0-0 draw at MA Aziz Stadium, Chittagong.
However, at the new venue in Gopalganj, the match was heading with almost evenly when Chittagong Abahani were in attacking approach and Aranbagh adopted with counter attack strategy.
The Chittagong Abahani produced the first scoring chance when Rubel Meah set up a cross inside the area for onrushing Chenchu and Sohel Rana but their forwards just mixed up and confused to shot into near post on 25th minute.
But three minutes later defender Alison Uduka did not make any mistake to mark the target with a close range header on a Mamunul corner on 28th minute (1-0).
Right on the half an hour mark Sohel Rana wasted the opportunity to make the lead double for Chittagong Abahani when he failed to net the ball from the danger area as their Bhutanese recruit Chenchu released a fine left side cross.
Arambagh, who managed to keep the favourites on 1-0 in the first half, maintained their defending skills up till the end to keep the score respectable After 18 matches Arambagh obtained 21 points.
