3-day Inernational Conference on Biotechnology begins at DU
A three-day 8th International Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology Conference styled "Biotechnology for innovative Agriculture and Food Security " began yesterday on Dhaka University campus.
Science and Technology Affairs Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman inaugurated the conference as the chief guest while Dhaka University Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique also joined it as special guest at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university). Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology (BAPTC & B) organised the event.
Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University VC Prof Kamal Uddin Ahamed and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Gopalganj VC Prof Khondoker Md Nasiruddin also joined the. Speaking on the occasion, Architect Yeafesh Osman underscored the need for upgrading biotechnological research to ensure food security in the country. 
He stressed on introducing joint collaborative research programmes on biotechnology among the researchers of different countries.
Prof Arefin Siddique said plant tissue culture techniques have now emerged as a major industrial factor in the area of plant propagation, disease elimination, plant improvement and production of secondary metabolites.

IU enrollment tests begin today
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: The enrollment tests for the first year honours courses of Islamic University in Kushtia under 2016-17 academic sessions will begin today, an IU press release said.
According to the release, A and B units under theology and Arts faculties will be held today, H and C units under Law and Social Science faculties will be held Monday, G and D units under Business Administration and Applied Science and Technology faculties will be held on Tuesday and E and F units under Applied Science and Technology faculty will be held on Wednesday.
The admission tests will be held in four shifts in a day. The first shift will be held from 9.30am to 10.30 am, second shift from 11.30am to 12.30pm, third shift from 2.00pm to 3.00pm and fourth shift will be held from 4.00pm to 5.00pm respectively, the release added. IU VC Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari told BSS the law enforcement agencies would work during the admission tests.

JU viva voce for admission begins today
SAVAR: The viva voce for admission into first year honors courses of Jahangirnagar University (JU) under the academic session 2016-2017 will be held between December 4 and 5.
The viva voce for 'Drama and Dramatics' and 'Fine Arts' departments will be held between December 4 and 7, JU Deputy Registrar (academic) Mohammad Ali told BSS.
The viva examination under six faculties and two institutions will be held between 9 am to 5 pm, but the time schedule would vary faculty to faculty, he added.
The detailed information about viva voce is available on the university website www.ju-admission.org, Ali said.

Prize distributed among Olympiad winners at JU
SAVAR: The prize-giving ceremony of the 3rd Mathematics Olympiad was held at the Jahangirnagar University (JU) Zahir Raihan auditorium here on Friday.
Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Dipu Moni distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest.
At the function, JU Vice-chancellor Professor Farjana Islam was conferred with honour as a first female vice-chancellor among all public universities in the country and Science and Technology Affairs Secretary and former JU English Department student Sirajul Haque Khan was also honored. JU Science Club organized the Olympiad while its president Abu Sayeed chaired the function.

Admission test for MBA course under DU IBA held
The admission test under 2016-17 academic session for MBA course under Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University was held on Friday.
Vice-chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique visited examination centres at the institute on Friday morning.
Pro-Vice-chancellor (administration) Prof Akhtaruzzaman and IBA Director Prof AKM Saiful Majid accompanied the vice-chancellor.

Seminar on global education held at CUB
A public seminar on ‘Global Education: International Students Experience’ was held at Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) on Thursday for parents and students, says a press release. 
The speaker of the seminar Cristian Talesco, from Italy spoke on the importance of a global educational experience. He provided examples and advice on how to globalise the student education. 
Based on his personal experience as an international student and researcher in more than eight universities in Italy, Portugal, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, and China Talesco motivated students of Bangladesh to also think global. 
The speaker also emphasized that open-mindedness to explore new countries, new languages and new cultures are vital to fostering a truly international experience.
Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, founder and chairman, Board of Trustees, Canadian University of Bangladesh, Prof Dr William H Derrenger, vice- chancellor and Prof Dr James Gomez, Pro-vice-chancellor of Canadian University of Bangladesh also spoke on the occasion.
