Man gets life term for killing  
A Chittagong court in a verdict here on Thursday sentenced a youth to life term rigorous imprisonment for killing his friend at the city' Miakhan Nagar of Bakalia area in 1997.
The court of Chittagong Divisional Special Tribunal Judge Mir Ruhul Amin pronounced the verdict convicting Mohmmad Younus, for killing his friend Shamsher Ali. The court also acquitted another three friends of victim for not probe the allegation against them, court sources added.
The prosecution story, in short, is that Younus gunned down to his friend Shamsher Ali after taking away him at Chairman ghata area under Bakalia, in the city in the name of buying tape recorder on November 3 in 1997.

Couple found dead
Police recovered the bodies of a couple from their residence at Hausa village in Sadar upazila in Sylhet yesterday morning. 
The deceased are Gias Uddin, 40, and his wife Jasmin Begum, 32. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Akhter Hossain said Giash’s body was found hanging and his wife was also found dead on the floor of their residence. Gias was mentally unstable. We are investigating into the matter, the OC added.

Robbers loot 2 houses
Robbers looted valuables including gold ornaments and cash from two houses at Rahimpur village in Sylhet early Saturday.
Rafikul Islam, sub-inspector of Bishwanath Police Station, said a gang of masked robbers, numbering 20-25, stormed into the houses of Qatar expatriate Mokhlis Ali and London expertriate Mahmud Ali at the village in Khajanchi union parishad around 2.30am breaking the locks of doors.

NUS holds discussion
Nari Unnayan Shakti (NUS) organised a discussion meeting titled ‘the role of civil society to prevent violence against women’ marking Bangladesh NGO Foundation Day 2016, says a press release. 
The event took place at NUS Training Centre, Banasree in the capital yesterday with the support of Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF).  
Executive Director of NUS D. Afroja Parvin presided over the discussion. Dr. AKM Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan, additional secretary, Ministry of Education attended as the chief guest. Community based Stop Violence Community Team (SVCT) members from 20 slums of Khilgaon Thana and different elite persons of Dhaka city were present in the meeting. Special guests were Dr Sultan Muhammad Razzak, President of International Culture University, Dr. Shaleha Kader, Chairman & Principal of Cherry Blossoms International School, Dr. Jaharaby Ripon, Director of Proshika.
