Current and former students of Rajshahi University (RU) along with several hundred students from various universities and colleges of Rajshai district formed human a chain demanding an increase of the age limit for government jobs from 30 years to 35.
They formed the human chain programme under the banner “Sadharan Chhatra Parishad” around 11.30 am in front of RU main gate at Rajshahi- Dhaka highway.
The programme was conducted by Rezanul Haque, publicity secretary of “Sadharan Chhatra Parishad of Rajshahi district unit while president of the organisation Md Shazahan Raton presided over the programme. Prof. Golam Sarwar of RU History Department, SCP RU unit president Elin Sayeed, and general secretary Shamim Hossen, among others, spoke on the occasion.
The speakers at the human chain said the government should raise the maximum age limit for recruiting government employees. In West Bengal of India, the age limit is 40 while in other provinces it is 38. The age limit is 45 in Sri Lanka, 35 is in Indonesia and Italy and 40 in France.
The students cannot complete their academic life at the age of 27-28 due to many reasons including session jam, they added.
