Star-studded Dhaka Dynamites will lock horns with rejuvenated Chittagong Vikings in the second match of the eighth day of the third phase of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) at 6:15pm today.

Both teams are considered as the hot favourites for the final of BPL. In that sense, the match will be the test of the strength for the both teams. Although Dhaka Dynamites almost confirmed the top-four phase as the first team, Chittagong Vikings have not confirmed yet. But if the team could win the match they could then be ensured their berth in the next phase unless they have to wait for the last match against Rangpur Riders.
This will be the second encounter for Dynamites and Vikings. In their first meeting, Dhaka Dynamites beat them by 19 runs, the match which was held in Chittagong was the opener of the second phase. That was their fourth consecutive losses. Since then, Dhaka had played two matches there but could not triumph any of them. But Chittagong won the rest three matches at home turf.
In third phase, both teams increased their strength by bringing quality foreign players to bolster their line-up ahead of the fierce battle for the top-four and maintained their winning spree.
Both Dynamites and Vikings played the identical number of 10 matches so far, where the former won one match more than the latter. Dynamites are on the pole position on the points table with 14 points, while Vikings closely followed them with 12 points.
Dynamites brought back Andre Russell and newly recruited Evin Lewis, Ronsford Beaton along with Matt Coles from West Indies and England. Chittagong Vikings on the other hand roped in Chris Gayle, who already played two matches for Vikings after coming here to BPL for the fourth times.
Dhaka  refrained from attending practice as they had played match last afternoon. But Chittagong Vikings appeared in Mirpur without their key performers Tamim Iqbal and Chris Gayle and honed their skills and techniques at the BCB-National Cricket Academy (NCA) yesterday.
Before their practice at afternoon session, Vikings wicketkeeper-batsman Jahurul Islam Omee spoke to the media, where he said that they seek to keep going their momentum.
“We are in very good rhythm. We won five matches on the trot. The team’s combination is also very good. Like batting line-up, our bowling and fielding are doing well. Overall, we have been turned to be a combined team,” said Jahurul Islam.
Hopefully the way we played our last matches we will try our level best to continue it in the next match,” Islam told reporters.
Citing Dhaka Dynamites as the most favourite team of the BPL, the national discard said that they want to beat them in the next clash against Dynamites.
“Dhaka are very good side. They are the most favourite team of the tournament. We earlier played a match against them,” he said, adding “That time our team condition was not so good. But we are enjoying a good momentum after winning five matches in a row. Hopefully we could properly be recovered against Dhaka in the next match.”
When asked about getting extra-impetus for star-players likes of Chris Gayle, the wicketkeeper-batsman said, “There will be no extra demand if we have player likes of Chris Gayle in the team. We have Shoaib Mallik, Mohammad Nabi, Dwayne Smith. So, we have big names in the team. Such types of players in the team give extra motivation to other players of the side.”
“If he does not make runs the rest of the players are in relaxed mode. When we share the same dressing room or play with him or his batting boost up other players. The team will always get an extra edge if such player or players are in a team,” he also said.
