Fei Xuan, a famous geologist, and Za Shi, a Chinese cartoonist, recently created the Yunnan Geology Tour, China’s first hand-painted geology book. It comprehensively introduces readers to Yunnan’s geological evolution.
When Fei Xuan was exploring the Sahara in 2006, he discovered it contained the largest freshwater lake. He came to the conclusion that we actually know little about the land under our feet. Why is Yunnan referred to as a red land? Why do three large rivers flow parallel in Yunnan? We can only find the answers to these questions by understanding geological history. After two years of pondering, collecting and collating materials, Fei Xuan completed the first draft of this book.
Later, a young Chinese cartoonist named Li Chuanzhi– also known as Za Shi hand-painted more than 300 illustrations to perfectly interpret the geological information the book tries to convey.
A vivid popular science book, Yunnan Geology Tour spans 4.6 billion years to bring home to readers the geological evolution of the province.
