Reading. To most of the people, especially to students of schools and colleges, reading is a mandatory process. They do it to pass exams, for assignments or simply for the sake of it. But to some of the people, someone like me who was quiet and shy and whose childhood was filled with books of all sorts, reading is like breathing. It freed my mind and soul when I felt trapped inside. Books have been my getaway from the real world ever since I can remember. The baffling cases of Misir Ali, the ever mysterious Himu, Tin Goyenda and my personal favourite Masud Rana (yes, I was crazy about him) surrounded my childhood. As I grew up, my taste changed but the habit stayed. Books have been with me through all my hard times. No, it doesn’t mean I didn’t have friends. It’s just that sometimes you need a different kind of comfort, which cannot be gained by talking to people or going out. At least it didn’t on my case. To quote Neil Gaiman – ‘A book is a dream that you hold in your hand.’ A book helps you to live many lives whenever you get bored with the real one. Also it’s a great way to ignore people. Trust me it works *wink wink*. So if you’re giving a second thought about picking up that book you wanted to read for months, do it now. You won’t regret it.
