To celebrate 8th founding anniversary, BotTala, one of the most local vibrant theatre troupes, has arranged its second biennial theatre festival titled ‘BotTala Rangamela’ at the Mahila Samity in the capital’s Baily Road. Supported by Cultural Ministry, the festival will begin today highlighting freedom and festivity against the brutality of destroying innocent lives and our environment.
The 10-day festival will be featuring only new plays those were brought to stage this year by the theatre troupes and artists from Bangladesh India and Iran.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will inaugurate the festival today, while Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu will be present as chief guest. The inaugural ceremony will also be attended by Director of EMK Center MK Aaref, noted theatre personalities Foyez Jahir, Azad Abul Kalam and Nuna Afroz as special guests.
Like the previous year, the festival is set to honour a theatre personality with ‘BatTala Rangamela Award’. This year, veteran theatre personality Aly Zaker will receive the award at the closing ceremony of the festival on December 10.
Today, on the opening day, the host troupe BotTala will bring their new play ‘Kracher Kornel’ on stage day.
Invited by BotTala, as many as six local troupes and three foreign troupes will stage their latest productions during the festival; these are— Jessore based troupe Bibartan’s ‘Matbring’, Nagorik Natyangan’s ‘Gahar Badsha O Banesa Poree’, Pagonemor’s ‘Condemn Cell’, ‘Jahangir Nagar University’s ‘Karbalar Jari’, Aranyak’s ‘The Jubilee Hotel’ and Theatre’s ‘Maya Nodee’.
On the other hand, Kuchbihar based Indian troupe Compass Theatre will come up with its play ‘Chop! Adalat Cholche’ and Notdha will stage their productions ‘Othoi’, while Iranian theatre troupe Crazy Body will bring their production ‘The Mad’ during the festival.
In addition, BotTala will stage a special show of their play ‘Modhu Shikari’ for the children on December 9. The festival will also feature an art camp for the children on the same day.
All the shows of plays are scheduled to take place every day at 7pm at the Mahila Samiti Mancha. The festival will also have a wide array of activities such as drama, music, dance, which lined up to take place on the open premises of Mahila Samiti.
