BNP plans rally to mark Victory Day

BNP plans rally to mark Victory Day

The BNP wants to bring out a colourful procession and hold a rally of freedom fighters to mark "Victory Day" on December 16.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this while talking to reporters after a party meeting at the central office at Naya Paltan in the city.
He said the party would seek permission from the authorities concerned to observe the programme. The leader expressed hope that the government would cooperate with them.
Fakhrul announced the party's programme to mark "Fall of Autocracy Day" on December 6, "Martyred Intellectual Day" on December and "Victory Day" on December 16.
As part of the programme, the Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal, a front organisation of the BNP, will organise the rally of freedom fighters.
The other programmes will include placing of a wreath at the mazar of party founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, hoisting of party and national flags at party offices, and holding discussions and bringing out processions.
The BNP secretary general said the venue of the meeting and procession would depend on permission of the authorities.
Replying to a question, Fakhrul said the BNP's senior vice-chairman, Tarique Rahman, has been implicated in “false cases” one after another to keep him away from politics.
The BNP wanted to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan to mark “National Revolution and Solidarity Day” in early November, but was not given permission.
However, police gave permission to the BNP to hold a meeting at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, on November 8, but the BNP rejected it, saying they wanted to hold an outdoor rally not an indoor one.
