Malaysian delegates call on DU VC
A two-member delegation led by A Rahman Mohamed, a renowned Artist and Professor of the School of Arts of the University of Science, Malaysia on Monday called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at his latter's office on the campus.
Other member of the delegation was Fauzar Omar, also a Malaysian Artist, said a DU press release. Chairman of DU Printmaking Department Anisuzzaman was present at the meeting, among others. During the meeting, they discussed about the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes on art and culture between Dhaka University and the University of Science, Malaysia. They also stressed on the need for introducing teachers and students exchange programme between the two universities.
10 JU students receive 2nd phase NEF stipend
Ten female students of Environmental Science department and Microbiology department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Monday received the second phase stipend of Nagao Natural Environmental Foundation (NEF), Japan.
JU Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Farzana Islam distributed the stipend money among the students at a function at the council room on the campus, a university press release said. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Farzana said any kind of scholarship is a great honour and recognition of excellence. She hoped that the awardees will further excel in their lives by participating in various academic and research activities. JU Treasurer Professor Dr Abul Khair, Dean of Biological Sciences faculty Professor Dr Abdul Zabber Hawlader, Dean of Law faculty Professor Dr Sheikh Majurul Haque and Professor of Environmental Science department Dr Khabir Uddin and Syed Hafizur Rahman were present at the function, among others, the release added. The NEF is a non-governmental organisation of Japan dedicated to promoting nature conservation and supports undergraduate students in developing countries in Asia.
Nat’l confce on journalism held
A two-day national conference on ‘Mass Communication and Journalism’ held on Dhaka University (DU) campus.
Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of the university hosted the conference styled "Mapping the Terrain of Mass Media Research in Bangladesh: Critical Perspectives". Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu joined its inaugural session as the chief guest at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university. DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated on Monday morning while Chief Information Commissioner Prof Golam Rahman presented the keynote paper. Prime Minister's Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Supernumerary Professes of MCJ Department Dr Shakhawat Ali Khan and President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul also addressed the function with Chairman of the MCJ Department Prof Mofizur Rhaman in the chair.
UGC launches book ‘Universities of Bangladesh’
The launching ceremony of a book ‘Universities of Bangladesh’ published by University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was held in a local hotel on Monday.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, launched the book as the chief guest. UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan chaired the launching ceremony. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Abdulla Nazeer, State Minister for Education, Maldives, Prof Baray Seddiqi, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Higher Education, Afghanistan, Dr. Kavita A Sharma, president, South Asian University, New Delhi, Prof Parashar Prasad Koirala, chairperson, Governing Board, South Asian University and Chairman, UGC, Nepal, Prof Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC, Prof Dil Afroza Begum, member, UGC, among others were present on the ceremony.
The chief guest, in his speech appreciated the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh for publishing the book for projecting the over all scenario of higher education of Bangladesh.
