SUST student arrested over ‘Hizb ut-Tahrir connection’
Police arrested a student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) from Kajolshah area of Sylhet city on Monday evening over his alleged involvement with banned Islamist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.
The arrestee was identified as Abdullah Jubair Mukta, 22, hailing from Boraigram in Natore district and a student of the Civil and Environment Engineering Department at SUST. Zedan Al Musa, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), said a team of Kotwali Police station arrested him along with 16 leaflets of the outfit.
Mugger gets 10yrs jail in Ctg
A court in Chittagong on Tuesday sentenced a to 10 years rigorous imprisonment in a case filed for recovering arms that was used for snatching.
The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Shah-e-Nur delivered the verdict convicting snatcher Mohammad Minhaj, hailed from city's Khulshi area. Court sources said a team of Chittagong Metropolitan police arrested Minhaj on August 12, 2010. Police recovered a country made LG gun from Khulshi wireless colony area, under the police station, according to his confession.
Dhanshiri fined by DNCC mobile court
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Tuesday conducted a mobile court and fined ‘Dhanshiri restaurant’ of Gulshan-2 Tk 50,000 for various irregularities, including unhygienic kitchen.
Besides, the mobile court, led by DNCC’s executive magistrate Md Sajid Anwar also sealed off a coffee shop “CUPPA Coffee” of the same area for different indiscretions, says Public Relation Officer of the corporation Manzur-e-Mawla. During the drive, the mobile court found that “Dhanshiri was selling various products without trademarks. Besides, it also found environment of the kitchen unhygienic and its employees have no health certificate from the authorities.
710 phensidyl bottles seized
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 710 bottles of phensidyl syrup worth Tk 2.48 lakh from Mirganj border area in Bagha upazila on Tuesday evening.
Tipped off that a group of miscreants were smuggling a large consignment of phensidyl through Mirganj border, a team of the border guards conducted a drive there and seized 710 bottles of the contraband syrup in an abandoned condition, said Sohel Uddin, commanding officer of Rajshahi BGB battalion 1.
